No. 22 TexAnns knock off Northeastern despite time crunch

ARKADELPHIA, AR. - Despite having two singles matches cut short due to time constraints, the No. 22 Tarleton TexAnns continued their strong showing at Ouachita Baptist by beating Northeastern 5-2 Friday morning.

In a one round doubles match, Karla Martinez and Melanie Barnes earned an 8-2 win against NSU's top-seeded doubles team while Alicia Perez and Mackenzie Mitchell had to battle for an 8-5 win against the second seeds. Silvia Nieva and Kayla Deatherage were defeated 8-3.

In the singles matches, Perez and Martinez handled the top two seeds with 6-3, 6-3 and 6-4, 6-2 wins. Barnes had to battle back from a 1-6 loss in the first set, but managed to earn the victory with a 6-3, 6-0 rally.

Mitchell and Deatherage had their matches called due to time constraints while Nieva fell 6-0, 6-1 in singles.

Tarleton continues play at OBU with a match against Southwest Baptist later today.
