Tarleton track, cross country signs high school standouts

STEPHENVILLE - Tarleton has received commitments from four high school track & field athletes to compete for Tarleton next season.

"We are very excited to add the student-athletes to the Tarleton track & field and cross country family," said head coach Pat Ponder. "I think Coach (Justin) Hobbs did an outstanding job in addressing some of our needs and I look forward to seeing these student-athletes develop in the upcoming years."

Here's a look at the six newest Tarleton runners:

Alex Abbott 

Alex is a sprinter from New Waverly, Texas who specializes in the 200 and 400 meters. During her junior year she placed second in her district in the 200 meter dash and was district champ in the 400 meter dash. She is a member of Track Houston track club and participated in the 2011 USATF Southwest Region Junior Olympics where her team placed 6th in the 4x400m relay and 3rd in the 4x400m relay. Alex will participate in the 2012 Down Under Games this summer where she will compete in Australia representing the United States.

Joshua Pryor

Joshua is a Sprinter from Dallas, Texas and is a coming to Tarleton after graduating from Southwest Christian College. During his time at SCC, Joshua specialized in the 200m dash and 400m dash and was a member of their 4x400m relay team.

Conner Wilkes

Conner is a sprinter from Lubbock, Texas specializing in the 100m, 200m, and 400m dash. As a junior Conner placed first in his district in the 200m dash and second in the 100m dash. 

Mason Wrobel

Mason is a distance runner from Arlington Texas and attends Lamar High School. Mason is a much decorated distance runner. He is a 3 time district champion as well as regional qualifier.  Mason participated in the 2009 Footlocker South cross country meet as well as the 2010 Nike South cross country meet. In track he was a 2011 regional qualifier.

The 2012 track & field season begins March 8 in Stephenville at the Tarleton Invitational.
