Softball successful in second straight sweep

- Box Score

KINGSVILLE – Tarleton's domination of conference play continued Saturday afternoon as the TexAnns (20-7, 6-0) completed the sweep of Texas A&M-Kingsville, 5-0, to remain perfect in LSC action this season.

For the second straight day, Tarleton senior Samantha Swanda led the TexAnns to a win with a complete game shutout – her fourth and 11th win of the season.

The TexAnns got their offense going from the start when Alex Orf led off the game with a single down the left field line. A bunt and fielder's choice moved Orf to third with two away before Swanda drove her in with a single to the right side.

Orf scored again in the top of the third when Bailee Mauldin drove an RBI single up the middle with runners on the corners and two away.

Meanwhile, the Javelinas were getting on base against Swanda but were unable to piece anything together as Swanda and the TexAnns stranded four TAMUK baserunners over the first five innings.

Tarleton opened the flood gates in the sixth.

After lead-off single by Mauldin and a walk by Kelsey Latta, Abigail Tammen plated the pair with a two-RBI triple to right center. Two pitches later, McKaylee Pittman drove a single into left field to plate Tammen and make the Tarleton lead 5-0.

TAMUK only managed one base runner over the last two innings as the TexAnns cruised to the win.

Swanda went the distance allowing five hits and a season-low zero walks while striking out four.

Katie Welborn was 3-4 at the dish while Mauldin was the other TexAnn with a multi-hit game. Tammen, Pittman, Orf and Swanda had the rest of Tarleton's nine hits.

Tarleton will take a break from conference play with a Tuesday doubleheader against St. Mary's in San Antonio beginning at 1 p.m.
