Bobby Lane Invitational comes to end for Tarleton

ARLINGTON – Jeff Smith set a provisional qualifying mark in the 400-meter hurdles while Lindsey Hinton won the 5000-meter run for the third straight week during this weekend's event at the University of Texas at Arlington.
 
Hinton's first-place finish was the highest among Tarleton's women, taking the event over 39 other competitors with a time of 17:45.71. Celeste Meyer also cracked the top 10 in this event with a time of 18:38.53.
 
Nikki McNorton just missed another first place finish in the high jump with a leap of 1.70m while Jenna Duncan claimed the TexAnns' only other top five finish with fifth place in the 400m hurdles at 1:04.63.
 
Shelby Terry also boasted a top 10 finish by finishing tied for seventh in the high jump with a leap of 1.60m.
 
The TexAnns also had several 11th place finishers, including Payton Shoush (2:17.03 in the 800m run), Shabrina McAdams (1:08.14 in the 400m hurdles), Leslie Jordan (39.95m in the hammer throw) and the 4x400 relay team of Claire Goodman, Shoush, Paige Klein and Diamond Wilson (3:58.67.)
 
Meanwhile on the men's side, Smith led all Texans with the second-place finish in the 400m hurdles in a time of 51.98.
 
Tye Doty was the next highest finisher for the Tarleton men, posting a sixth-place spot in the 5000m run in 15:03.20. Doty's teammate, Miles Joslin, came in three spots behind in ninth with a time of 15:10.79.
 
Also standing out in the men's side was the 4x100 relay team of Phillip Hayes, Cordell Valentine, Gabriel Castillo and Jamal Mays who finished ninth with a time of 41.50 while the 4x400 relay team of Smith, Brian Cooper, Hayes and John Morin claimed 10th with a time of 3:19.91. Cooper also took an 11th place finish in the 800m run in 1:56.45.
 
Tarleton will return to action next weekend in Austin for the Texas Relays.
