SOUTHLAKE – The Tarleton TexAnns suffered a 5-0 sweep at the hands of No. 6 Abilene Christian Friday night to bring their trip to the Lone Star Conference Tournament to an end in the semifinals.
This marks the second straight season Tarleton has been ousted in the second round of the tournament.
ACU took the momentum by taking all three doubles matches, including No. 1 and No. 2 battles of all-conference doubles teams.
In the No. 1 spot, Karla Martinez and
Melanie Barnes fell 8-4 to Micah Hermsdorf and Hannah Kelley while
Alicia Perez and Mackenzie Mitchell lost 8-1 to Laura Mongin and Brittney Reed in the No. 2 spot.
Silvia Nieva and
Kayla Deatherage battled but also suffered a loss in the No. 3 spot by the score of 8-2.
In singles, Nieva lost to Reed 6-1, 6-0 and Deatherage lost to Kelley in the No. 6 spot 6-0, 6-0 to give ACU the five wins its needed to advance. Perez, Martinez, Barnes and Mitchell's matches remained unfinished.
Abilene Christian will face Cameron tomorrow in the finals at 12:30 p.m.
