TexAnns fall to MSU in series opener

- Box Score

WICHITA FALLS – McKaylee Pittman belted her first home run as a Tarleton TexAnn Friday but unfortunately that was the only offensive output of the afternoon as Midwestern State (16-20, 6-10) defeated first-place Tarleton (28-11, 13-3) in the series opener.

Midwestern got on the board first with a solo shot to center to lead off the bottom of the first.

Pittman answered in the top of the second with a three-run job to dead center, plating Abigail Tammen and Kelsey Latta who reached on a single and a walk, respectively.

Midwestern would not be denied, however, tacking on one in the bottom of the second, two in the fourth and one more in the fifth.

Tarleton had its chances at the plate, but couldn't capitalize.

In the fourth, Latta and Pittman reached after being hit by pitches with one away but didn't come in to score. In the sixth, Tarleton had the bases load with two away following a Latta single, Tanner Pipkin walk and an Alex Orf single but again failed to score.

Samantha Swanda laced a double down the left field line with one away in the top of the seventh, but a strikeout and groundout ended the rally.

Swanda took the loss in the circle, pitching six innings allowing five runs on six hits with three strikeouts.

Orf had the only multi-hit game, going 2-4, while Swanda, Tammen, Latta, Pittman and Amber Sotelo had the rest of Tarleton's seven total hits.

Tarleton and Midwestern will finish the series tomorrow with a noon doubleheader in Wichita Falls.
