Last Time Out
After dropping the first three games of the St. Mary's Invitational tournament last weekend, Tarleton bounced back to win the last two including the tournament finale on a walk off home run by Courtney Vroman against Texas-Permian Basin.
Vroman belted the first two home runs of her softball career last weekend en route to a .429 hitting stretch while Arianna Rodriguez and Amber Clifford also found success at the plate hitting .438 and .429, respectively. Randi Fentress pitched in every game for Tarleton, compiling a 2-2 record and an ERA of 1.85.
Fireballin' Fentress
Randi Fentress has taken over as the ace of the TexAnn pitching staff after spending the last two years behind Samantha Swanda. In her first action in the No. 1 pitching role, Fentress did not disappoint.
The junior fireballer from Birdville High School pitched in all five games, including posting complete games in each of her two starts. She has totaled 22.2 innings in five games while striking out 16 batters and recording a 1.85 earned run average.
Tarleton against Texas-Permian Basin, Panhandle State
The TexAnns will open the tournament with UTPB Saturday at 1:30 before playing two straight against Oklahoma Panhandle State Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon before finishing the tournament with a Sunday evening game against the Falcons.
After Vroman delivered a walk off bomb against UTPB last weekend, Tarleton is now 3-0 all-time against the Falcons dating back to the first game in 2010. Against Oklahoma Panhandle, Tarleton has won 15 out of 17 total meetings including eight straight dating back to 2004.
Queen of Home Runs
Arianna Rodriguez returns for her senior season after her 18-homer junior campaign in which she surpassed Alicia Petersma as the Tarleton all-time home run leader. Rodriguez has 33 career bombs and looking for No. 1 this season.
Up Next for Tarleton
The TexAnns pack up and head for the east coast next week to take part in the St. Leo Tournament in St. Leo, Florida. Tarleton will have four games over two days against Missouri-Science & Technology, No. 8 Tampa, St. Leo and Pittsburg State.
