STEPHENVILLE - Brenna Hennan's home dominance continued Saturday afternoon as the junior hurler allowed no earned runs in 4.1 innings of relief to lead the TexAnns to an 8-6 win - and series sweep - of Texas A&M-Kingsville Saturday.

"I'm really proud of the way the team battled back from a rough weekend last week," said head coach Jule Mata. "They responded well by coming home and taking care of business against a team who played hard and never gave up."

Hennan is now 5-0 at home this season, after earning her second win in as many outings, with a 0.23 ERA and 40 strikeouts. In 30.1 innings pitched in Stephenville, she has allowed just five total runs but only one earned.

"I can't say enough about the job Brenna did today," said Mata. "We got off to a shaky start but we really took advantages of some opportunities at the plate and Brenna did exactly what we needed her to do by not letting the game get out of reach."

Kingsville got on the board first with a home run to left field to take a 1-0 lead. They added one more in the top of the season on an RBI single to take a two-run lead.

Tarleton cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the second when the Kingsville shortstop dropped a two-out pop up just behind the infield dirt, allowing McKaylee Pittman to score from second.

In third, Kingsville appeared to pull away with a three-run inning when a trio of Javelinas came across as unearned runs following a two-run error and a single down the left field line.

Hennan came in for Tarleton and stopped the bleeding with two away in the third by getting the lead off hitter to foul out to first base.

After Rachel Brownlow was hit to open the inning, Kingsville made a pitching change and Tarleton's offense took advantage of back-to-back Kingsville miscues to open the flood gates for a six-run inning.

With the bases loaded and no one out, Bailee Mauldin laced a three-run triple over the right fielder to bring the TexAnns within one at 5-4.

"Bailee was big for us offensively today," said Mata. "Her triple in the third really gave us a spark offensively. I'm really proud of the way she handled herself at the plate today."

Three pitches later, Fentress ripped a double to straight away center field to plate Mauldin and tie the game at 5-5. Tarleton added two more later in the inning when Brownlow and Arianna Rodriguez were hit by pitches with the bases loaded. After three innings, Tarleton led 7-5.

After Hennan kept the Javelinas in check in the top of the fourth, Tarleton added an insurance run in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single to left by Pittman.

Kingsville got their one unearned run off Hennan when a routine single got by the right fielder and all the way to the wall, allowing the runner to get to third. She then scored on an infield single.

Hennan got the win, improving to 6-4 on the season. Fentress, the game's starter for Tarleton, pitched 2.2 innings allowing five runs - only two earned - on seven hits and two walks.

Mauldin recorded the only multi-hit game of the day, going 3-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Meldoy Mayse, Rodriguez, Fentress and Pittman the other four hits for Tarleton.

The TexAnns will take a two-game hiatus from Lone Star Conference play Tuesday with a doubleheader against St. Mary's at home beginning at 4 p.m.
