Softball Preview: St. Mary's

TexAnns host Rattlers for Tuesday doubleheader at 4 p.m.

Rachel Brownlow and the TexAnns will host St. Mary's for a Tuesday evening doubleheader tonight beginning at 4 p.m.

STEPHENVILLE - Tarleton will take a break from Lone Star Conference action tonight as they host Heartland Conference power St. Mary's for a Tuesday evening doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.

The TexAnns and Rattlers have already met twice this season, splitting two games in the St. Mary's Round Robin last month.

SERIES HISTORY

Tarleton owns the all-time series record 28-23 dating back to the first meeting in 1998. Tarleton won 12 of 13 meetings over the Rattlers from 2008-11, but St. Mary's has since taken five of the last eight meetings, including a 1-1 split last month.

HENNAN AT HOME

Brenna Hennan, a sophomore transfer, has found much success in the pitching circle at Tarleton's Softball Complex. The hurler from Burkburnett at home this season is 5-0 with an 0.23 ERA. In her four home starts, she is 4-0 with four complete games and two shutouts. She has thrown 30.1 innings in Stephenville and has allowed just one earned run on seven walks and 26 hits - 23 of them singles - while striking out 40.

HOME COOKIN'

Hennan isn't the only TexAnn to find success at home. As a team, Tarleton is 9-0 at home this season, in large part to hitting .351 as a team in the friendly confines of the TSU Softball Complex. Arianna Rodriguez and Bailee Mauldin lead the offensive onslaught hitting .538 and .440, respectively, with nine combined extra-base hits and 23 total RBIs between them. Melody Mayse (.452) and Rachel Brownlow (.417) are also hitting above .400 at home this season.

BROWNLOW GETS IT DONE AT THE DISH

Rachel Brownlow has been a consistent performer for the TexAnns offensively, especially as a situational hitter. The sophomore transfer from San Jacinto College is hitting .367 with runners on base, .409 with runners in scoring position and is advances runners in .553 percent of her at bats. She is leads the team with a .600 batting average when leading off an inning.

HITTING AGAINST THE RATTLERS

In the two meetings this season, Rachel Brownlow leads the team in batting average (among players with multiple at bats) with a .429 batting average. She is 3-7 against St. Mary's with two doubles and a triple. Arianna Rodriguez (.375), Courtney Vroman (.333) and Hannah Hancock (.333) are also topping the .300 mark against St. Mary's this season.

VROMAN IN THE 5-SPOT

The TexAnns have varied their lineup several times this season, but senior utility player Courtney Vroman has found much success in the five hole of the batting order. She has hit fifth in nine games this season, amassing 24 at bats for a .417 batting average. In that spot, she has score five runs on 10 hits and three walks with two home runs and eight RBIs.

Tarleton will resume LSC play with a three-game series at Abilene Christian this weekend with a 6 p.m. single game Friday and a Saturday doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
