Softball Preview: at Abilene Christian

TexAnns return to LSC action in final D2 visit to Abilene

Arianna Rodriguez and the Tarleton TexAnns will return to conference play this weekend as they travel to Abilene Christian for a three-game series.

STEPHENVILLE - After a two-game break from conference action, Tarleton will hit the road this weekend for a three-game series at Abilene Christian, beginning with a 6 p.m. single game Friday and a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday.

LAST TIME OUT

Tarleton split a rain-shortened Tuesday night doubleheader with St. Mary's in Stephenville. The TexAnns were doomed by home runs in the first game, allowing four round trippers to the Rattlers. In the second game, Tarleton's Brenna Hennan won her third straight decision by handing St. Mary's a 3-2 loss in six innings after lightning stopped the game two innings short.

SERIES HISTORY

Tarleton trails the all-time series history 26-30 dating back to the first meeting in 1997. The TexAnns won the season series 2-1 last year and have won five of the last eight meetings. Tarleton is 10-13 all-time in Abilene.

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS

Abilene Christian has dropped its first two conference series of the season, losing two of three to Incarnate Word on March 8-9 and Texas Woman's March 15-16. All four of their LSC losses have been by a combined six runs, including three one-run losses. They most recently swept a non-conference doubleheader against UTPB Tuesday night.

FENTRESS vs ACU

Randi Fentress has seen the Wildcats twice during her career at Tarleton. The junior from North Richland Hills is 1-0 against ACU and has totaled 7.1 innings against the Wildcats allowing three runs on four hits and eight walks with six strikeouts.

AWAY FROM THE FRIENDLY CONFINES

Tarleton has won just five of 16 games away from the TSU Softball Complex. The team is hitting just .219 and has struck out 103 times in 16 games outside of Stephenville.

QUEENS OF K

Randi Fentress and Brenna Hennan are third and fourth, respectively, in the Lone Star Conference in strikeouts. Fentress has K'd 77 batters in 88 innings while Hennan has retired 73 batters on strikes in 67.1 innings.

UP NEXT FOR TARLETON

The TexAnns will return home next weekend for a three-game set against Cameron beginning with a 5 p.m. doubleheader Friday night.
