Box Score 2 CANYON – Tarleton dropped a Saturday afternoon doubleheader to No. 3 West Texas A&M at Schaeffer Park in Canyon Saturday.
#3 West Texas A&M 11, Tarleton 0 (5)
A grand slam in the bottom of the fifth inning cut the first game short with the TexAnns on the wrong end of an 11-0 score.
The TexAnns had their chances early, getting a runner to third base in each of the first two innings. However, Tarleton couldn't bring any runs across.
Arianna Rodriguez led the game off with a double and moved to third on a 1-out groundball. In the second, a walk, a
Kelsey Latta single and an error loaded the bases with two away but a pop up ended the rally for Tarleton.
WT, on the other hand, jumped out with five runs over the first three innings. They got one in the first on an RBI single, one in the second on an RBI double and three in the third on an RBI single and a 2-RBI double.
The big inning came in the fifth when the Lady Buffs brought in two unearned runs on Tarleton miscues before clearing the bases with the game-ending grand slam.
Brenna Hennan took the loss after pitching 4.1 innings allowing 11 runs – eight earned – on nine hits and seven walks with five strikeouts.
Rodriguez, Latta and
Eryn Freitas had the only three hits for Tarleton.

In the second game of the day, Tarleton dropped a shootout 14-11 to the Lady Buffs in the series finale.
The Lady Buffs got on the board first with a three-run bottom of the first following a 2-RBI single and an RBI double.
However, Tarleton battled right back with a three spot of its own in the top of the second.
Bailee Mauldin got the TexAnns on the board with a solo blast to left field before Rodriguez drove in
McKaylee Pittman and
Shelby Tinklepaugh with a 2-RBI base knock to left field.
WT added three more in the following half inning to take a 6-3 lead after two. The Lady Buffs scored three unearned runs on two hits and an error.
Tarleton clawed closer with one more in the third on a bases-loaded single by Tinklepaugh to plate
Randi Fentress. The TexAnns couldn't get any more as the inning ended on a strikeout-throw out double play.
WT piled on six more in the bottom of the third on a bases loaded walk and a passed ball which allowed a run to come across before another Grand Slam highlighted the second 6-run inning of the day for WT. After three innings, the Lady Buffs led 12-4.
The TexAnns refused to go away, however, by tacking on four in the fourth with a pair of bases-loaded walks by Latta and
Katelyn Conlee before a 2-RBI double by Pittman made it 12-8.
The Lady Buffs scored their final two runs in the fourth inning on a Tarleton error and an RBI triple to take a 14-8 lead.
After both teams posted goose eggs over the next two innings, Tarleton tacked on three more runs on RBIs from
Rachel Brownlow, Fentress and Mauldin but couldn't overcome the deficit.
Fentress took the loss after throwing four innings allowing 10 runs – six earned – on five hits and seven walks. Conlee pitched two innings of relief allowing four runs – three earned – on three hits and six walks.
Mauldin (3-5), Pittman (2-4), Tinklepaugh (2-3) and Mayse (2-4) all recorded multi-hit games for the TexAnns while Rodriguez and Brownlow had one each for the 11 Tarleton hits.
The TexAnns will return home next weekend for their first home LSC series of the season against Texas A&M-Kingsville.
