Tarleton drops series opener at Angelo State

Tarleton dropped its series opener 9-1 against Angelo State Friday.
Box Score SAN ANGELO – Extra-base hits doomed the TexAnns in their series opener against Angelo State as Tarleton fell 9-1 to the Rambelles in five innings.
 
Tarleton had a chance to strike first, getting two of its three total hits on the first two batters of the game – Melody Mayse and Kelsey Latta - to set up two on, no one out in the top of the first. The rally came to an abrupt end and the TexAnns were held in check over the next three innings.
 
Meanwhile, Angelo put up three in the bottom of the third on a two-run homer and an RBI single. They added five more in the fourth on a two-run bomb, a two-run double and another RBI double.
 
Tarleton got on the board in the fifth when Mayse doubled home Eryn Freitas, who ran for Hannah Hancock who reached on a pinch hit walk.
 
Angelo added one more to end the game early with another RBI double to lead 9-1.
 
Brenna Hennan took the loss pitching four innings allowing nine runs – six earned – on nine hits and two walks with a pair of strikeouts. Randi Fentress pitched 0.1 innings of relief allowing one hit.
 
Mayse (2-3) and Latta had the only hits for the TexAnn offense.
 
The teams will finish the three-game set tomorrow with the first game of the doubleheader set for 1 p.m.
