Box Score DENTON – Tarleton dropped another one-run game in extra innings to No. 8 Texas Woman's Wednesday night as the Pioneers topped the TexAnns on a one-out, two-run homer in the eighth.
“Brenna (Hennan) pitched another solid game in a tough situation,” said Tarleton head coach
Julie Mata. “I'm proud of the way we carried ourselves as a team. It was also a great game to be a part of because Texas Woman's honored a great player tonight in Abby Burns.”
Texas Woman's got on the board first in the bottom of the opening inning with a pair of RBI singles to take a 2-0 lead.
After that, Tarleton pitcher
Brenna Hennan settled down and matched the Pioneer pitcher zero-for-zero over the next three innings. Hennan continued to deal while the TexAnn offense came alive.
McKaylee Pittman led off the fifth inning with a triple to right center field and was pinch-ran for by
Lauren Grisham. After back-to-back outs,
Courtney Vroman drove in Grisham with a single through the left side to make it a 2-1 game.
In the sixth,
Melody Mayse tied the game with a lead-off home run to right to make it 2-2.
After Hennan posted her sixth straight shutout frame in the seventh to force extras, Tarleton took a 3-2 lead on an RBI fielder's choice by
Kelsey Latta.
In the bottom of the eighth, Texas Woman's finally got to Hennan with the walk-off homer.
Hennan took the hard-luck loss, throwing 7.1 innings allowing four runs on seven hits and three walks with three strikeouts.
Mayse (2-4) and Vroman (2-3) were the only TexAnns with
Bailee Mauldin and Pittman recording the other two hits for Tarleton.
With her triple, Pittman has now reached base in 11 straight games while
Arianna Rodriguez reached base in her 12
th straight games by coaxing a walk.
The TexAnns return home this weekend for a three-game series against Incarnate Word beginning Friday at 5 p.m.
