Fentress flirts with no-hitter as TexAnns take rubber game 6-0

Junior pitcher takes no-hitter down to final batter

Randi Fentress flirted with a no-hitter for the second time this season, taking it down to the final batter en route to a 6-0 complete game shutout of Eastern New Mexico Saturday.
Box Score PORTALES, N.M. – Tarleton junior Randi Fentress took a no hitter down to the final batter en route to pitching a complete-game one-hitter in the rubber match of the three game series against Eastern New Mexico as the TexAnns won the game 6-0.

“That was my favorite pitching performance of Randi's and Bailee's,” said Tarleton head coach Julie Mata. “At the plate, Bailee and Mel (Mayse) really lit it up at the plate. Tanner (Pipkin) had a big hit and McKaylee (Pittman) did great again today. I'm really proud of them.”

This marks the second time this season that Fentress has flirted with a no-no deep into the game, after she took a perfect game 5 2/3 innings against Oklahoma Christian earlier this season.

She ended with the complete game shutout on one hit, three walks and four strikeouts.

The Tarleton offense backed her with a four-run second and a two-run third. The scoring started with a 2-RBI double by Kelsey Latta in the second.

Mayse drove in the third run on an RBI single before the fourth run came in on an error. In the third, Tarleton added two more on a 2-RBI single by Pipkin to plate Pittman and Mauldin.

For the game, Tarleton managed seven total hits with Mayse (3-4) and Mauldin (2-3) recording multi-hit games. Pipkin and Latta had the other two hits.

Tarleton has now won four straight LSC series and will return home for a primetime conference matchup with Midwestern State beginning Friday at 5 p.m. The game can be heard on the radio at KTRL 90.5 FM.
