STEPHENVILLE – After battling back in the opening set, Tarleton State dominated the final two games to sweep Cameron Saturday afternoon and improve to 17-5 on the season.
With the win, Tarleton State has now won three straight games – all sweeps – and seven of the last eight games. The win also secured a season sweep of Cameron, which makes three LSC opponents to have been beaten twice by Tarleton this season.
The TexAnns got off to a rocky start, however, as the Aggies built a quick four-point lead and eventually carried it to 8-12.
Tarleton was relentless in its pursuit of the Aggies as the TexAnns continued to claw back into the game and eventually brought it to a 22-22 tie off back-to-back kills from
Hailey Roberts. After a bad set gave Tarleton its first lead of the game and forced a timeout, Tarleton won the game on another Roberts kill and an Aggie miscue for the 25-23 Tarleton win.
In the second set, it was Tarleton that built the early lead as set-opening blocks from Alexander and the tandem of Alexander and Raglin started a 10-5 run for the TexAnns over the first 15 points.
After the teams split the next 20 points to make it 20-15, Alexander struck again with a block and a kill to go along with an Aggie error for three straight TexAnn points to pull away even farther. Alexander later finished off the set with a kill shot for the 25-18 win.
In the third set, Cameron struck for the first point but Tarleton answered with another Alexander kill that started a 17-4 TexAnn run to give Tarleton a 17-5 lead after the opening 22 points. Cameron got it back to eight at 24-16, but it was too late as Roberts landed home the next point for the 25-16 win.
Roberts recorded her team-high 12
th double-double of the season with 17 kills and 11 digs. She also recorded a career-high seven blocks and had three aces. Alexander finished with seven kills and eight blocks while
Kaitlyn White and
Ashley Rine each landed six kills.
Katie Covell led the team with 16 digs while the setting tandem of
Emily Medlin (19) and
Chandler Gow (17) combined for 36 assists on the afternoon.
Tarleton will be home one more time before hitting the road next weekend. The TexAnns will host in-region foe, St. Edward's, Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in Wisdom Gym.
