Box Score WICHITA FALLS – The regular season of Tarleton softball came to an end Saturday afternoon but the TexAnns can now turn their attention to their 13
th postseason appearance in 19 years as an NCAA program as they prepare for the LSC Championship Tournament next weekend.
On Saturday, however, Midwestern State handed the TexAnns an 8-1 loss to end the regular season with a three-game losing skid.
The Mustangs struck first with three runs in the bottom of the first on a two-run single and a sacrifice fly but Tarleton answered with one of their own in the ensuing half inning.
Melody Mayse led off the second inning with a double before eventually coming across on an RBI single from
Erika Menchaca for the only run of the game for the TexAnns. Tarleton had its chances, but stranded seven runners on base for the game.
Midwestern State added one in the third, three in the fourth and a final run in the sixth en route to the 8-1 final score.
Randi Fentress took the loss, allowing eight runs – seven earned – on 11 hits and seven walks.
The Tarleton offense managed seven hits for the game with
Mikayla Stogsdill and Menchaca recording two hits each and
Kelsey Latta, Mayse and
Lauren Grisham accounting for the other three Tarleton hits.
Tarleton is the sixth seed in next weekend's LSC Championship Tournament and will play the first game of the weekend Friday at 11 a.m. against No. 3-seed Texas Woman's.
The location will be determined after today's regular season doubleheader finale between West Texas A&M and Angelo State. The Lady Buffs and Rambelles entered today's twin bill tied for first place in the LSC.
