Box Score 2 STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton split the final doubleheader as
Mikayla Stogsdill drove in the winning run in game one and Cameron took game two Saturday afternoon on senior day in Stephenville.
Game 1: Tarleton 7, Cameron 6
An RBI single off the bat of
Mikayla Stogsdill capped off a three-run, sixth-inning rally and was ultimately the game winner as Tarleton downed Cameron 7-6 in the first game of Saturday's double dip.
Tarleton got the game started with a solo run in the bottom of the first when
Melody Mayse reached on a lead-off walk and eventually came around to score on a sacrifice fly by
Katelyn Conlee.
After Cameron knotted the score in the third, Tarleton's
Bailee Mauldin blasted a three-run home run to deep left field – bringing home
Taylor Wells and
Amber Clifford – for a 4-1 TexAnn lead after four innings.
Randi Fentress kept the Aggies in check through the fifth but ran into trouble in the sixth when Cameron plated five runs on a pair of 2-RBI hits and a solo homer to straight away center. Fentress got a pop up to third to stop the bleeding at 6-4.
Tarleton answered right back, starting with a single by
Kelsey Latta and a walk by Fentress.
Mayse took advantage of the runners with two out by launching a two-run triple over the head of the centerfielder to bring home the two TexAnn seniors. Stogsdill then put Tarleton on top with a single through the left side.
Cameron got the tying run to second in the top of the seventh but Fentress struck out Carly Allerheiligen looking to end the game.
Fentress earned her 10
th win of the season by pitching all seven innings and allowing six runs – five earned – on eight hits and two walks with four strikeouts.
The TexAnn offense mustered nine hits in the game with Stogsdill the only TexAnn with more than one hit, going 2-3 with an RBI. Mayse, Wells, Clifford, Mauldin, Latta and Fentress had the rest of the Tarleton hits.
Game 2: Cameron 11, Tarleton 3
In the final game of the series, Tarleton surrendered eight unearned runs on four errors as the Aggies took the series finale 11-3 from the TexAnns.
All of the Cameron runs came in the first three innings as the Aggies put up one in the first and five in the second and third innings.
Tarleton got on the board for the only time in game two when Mayse hit her second triple of the day and Stogsdill worked a walk – both with two outs – to set up an opposite field, three-run bomb from
Katelyn Conlee. That was the last of the scoring for the day.
The Mayse and Conlee hits were the only ones of the day for Tarleton as Hennan took the loss after throwing five innings allowing 11 runs – only three earned – on 10 hits and three walks with six strikeouts.
Tarleton will hit the road Friday for a doubleheader at Texas Woman's for their only day of action next week. The twin bill will begin at 1 p.m. at Pioneer Field in Denton.
