Cross Country brings home second place finishes in season opener

Both the men and womens teams finish second at the Bob Gravett Invitational

ARKADELPHIA, ARK. – The Tarleton Cross Country teams officially got the 2014 season under way running at Ouachita Baptist's Bob Gravett Invitational.
 
Both Tarleton teams finished second in the season opening meet.
 
"It was a good start to the season and it gave us a good look at where our fitness level is" said head coach Pat Ponder. "I'm proud of how the freshmen performed, both men and women."
 
On the men's side, Dylan Willett and James Polasek highlighted the race by finishing one and two in the 8K - posting times of 26:33.43 and 26:40.39, respectively.
 
Robert Pereira followed Willett and Polasek in sixth crossing the line in 27:24.59.
 
Following Pereira were Luke Scribner, Andrew Clark, Peyton Heining and Mason Wrobel who finished 13th, 23rd, 28th and 29th, respectively.
 
The men finished with a total time of 2:17:26.71 and an average time of 27:29.35.
 
The women's race saw Tylo Farrar as the highest finisher for Tarleton completing the 5K in 18:41.21 for a fifth place finish.
 
Katelin Huckabee and Pamela Marquez were close behind Farrar, finishing seventh and ninth with times of 18:57.24 and 19:29.13 for the TexAnns.
 
After Marquez were Lauren Finley, Haley Dennard, Makinsey Beesley and Lindsey Schluter who finished 13th, 19th, 21st and 42nd, respectively.
 
"We'll build off of this and see where it goes from here as we prepare and look forward to UTSA next week" noted Ponder.
 
The Tarleton State Cross Country teams will travel to San Antonio as they compete the UTSA Ricardo Romo Classic on September 19th.
