TexAnns roll past Cameron for seventh straight win

STEPHENVILLE – In a much anticipated battle of two of the top teams in the Lone Star Conference, the TexAnns were dominant from start to finish en route to a sweep of Cameron for their seventh straight win.

Cameron opened the match with two straight points, but the Aggies' lead would be short-lived as Hailey Roberts landed the first of her game-high 24 kills to get Tarleton on the board and start an 8-0 TexAnn run to put the home team in complete control of the opening set.

The Tarleton defense allowed Cameron to score back-to-back points just two more times over the opening set as Tarleton cruised to a 25-14 win in the first set. Tarleton held Cameron to a .000 hitting percentage for the set while landing .375 of their offensive swings.

After the second set opened in a 1-1 tie, Kenya Alexander stole the momentum with a kill shot that started a 10-1 Tarleton run to put the TexAnns up 11-2. Over that span, Tarleton got kills from Roberts and Kelsey Raglin to go along with the final point of the run on a Chandler Gow service ace.

Cameron pulled within five at 14-9, but the TexAnns responded with an 11-7 run down the stretch to claim the 25-16 win. Raglin capped off the set with a kill shot off a pass from Roberts.

The teams stayed steady over the third set, going to an 11-11 tie over the first 22 points.

Following a break in action due to substitution questioning, Tarleton took control of the momentum beginning with a kill from Meg Umbel. The Umbel kill started a 14-6 TexAnn run that delivered Tarleton a 25-17 win in the set and their 10th sweep of the season.

Roberts led the way with 24 kills while Umbel added seven and Raglin landed six. The trio of TexAnns recorded hitting percentages of .314, .600, and .429, respectively. Chandler Gow led the way with 37 assists to go along with 10 digs for her third career double-double.

Ayssa Garcia (14) and Adrianna Knutson (10) also cracked double figures in digs for Tarleton.

The TexAnns will return to action Saturday afternoon in Stephenville when they host Midwestern State at 2 p.m. in Wisdom Gym.
