THE WEEKEND
Tarleton State will head to San Antonio for its final action before starting Lone Star Conference play as the TexAnns take part in the Rattler Invitational at St. Mary's for five games over the next three days.
THE GAMES
The TexAnns will put their hot start to the test at the Rattler Invitational, as Tarleton will square off with nationally ranked opponents in three of its five games this weekend – including two against the No. 4-ranked Rattlers. Tarleton will open the tournament Friday with a 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. doubleheader against Texas A&M International and St. Mary's. On Saturday, the TexAnns will have a 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. twin bill against Oklahoma Christian and St. Mary's before wrapping things up with a 12 p.m. showdown Sunday afternoon with the No. 13 Central Oklahoma Bronchos.
THE SERIES: TEXAS A&M INTERNATIONAL
Tarleton has won seven of the 11 all-time meetings against the Dustdevils dating back to the inaugural meeting in 2008. The TexAnns are 4-1 against International at neutral site locations, including 2-1 over the last three meetings – which have all been at a neutral site. Tarleton won the last meeting 5-4 on February 2, 2013.
THE SERIES: ST. MARY'S
The history between Tarleton and St. Mary's is a rich one that dates back to 1998. The TexAnns and Rattlers have squared off 58 times in the last 16 years with Tarleton earning 30 wins, including an eight-game winning streak over the Rattlers from 2008-10. The TexAnns have lost three straight in the series.
THE SERIES: OKLAHOMA CHRISTIAN
This will be the fifth all-time meeting between Tarleton and Oklahoma Christian in a series that started in 1998. The teams met on a neutral site in 1998 and OCU won the inaugural meeting before the teams went the next 14 years without taking the field together. The series was rekindled in 2013 when Oklahoma Christian made a trip to Stephenville and Tarleton swept the Eagles. Oklahoma Christian won the lone meeting last year to even the series at 2-2.
THE SERIES: CENTRAL OKLAHOMA
Former Lone Star Conference rivals – Tarleton State and Central Oklahoma – will conclude the weekend for the Purple and White in San Antonio. The TexAnns and Bronchos will face off for the 24
th time as Tarleton looks for its first win in the series since 2010. Tarleton has won seven of the 24 meetings against UCO since the series began in 1996.
ST. MARY'S TOURNAMENT
The annual tournament trip to San Antonio has been a part of Tarleton's schedule for the last eight years – since the TexAnns first took part in the tournament during the 2008 season. The TexAnns have a combined record of 18-14 at the St. Mary's Tournament since making an annual appearance.
PUTTING THE LSC OFFENSE IN PERSPECTIVE
Tarleton State is currently fifth in the Lone Star Conference in team batting average at .345 through the first two weeks of the season. That average would have Tarleton in the top-2 in each of the other conferences in the South Central region – the Rocky Mountain Athletic and Heartland Conference. Every team in the Lone Star Conference is hitting at least .320 this season with Texas A&M-Kingsville bringing up the rear with a .322 average. In the rest of the region combined, there are only six teams hitting above .300 and only four hitting above .320.
UP NEXT FOR TARLETON
The TexAnns return home to begin Lone Star Conference action next weekend when Tarleton hosts the reigning National Champions, No. 1 West Texas A&M beginning Friday at 5 p.m.
