The GamesTexAnn Softball is hosting University of Texas-Permian Basin for a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon with game one scheduled at 1 p.m. at the Tarleton Softball Complex.
The OpponentUTPB snapped an eight-game losing streak with its 3-2 win against Texas A&M International on March 7. The Falcons' win improved its record to 5-17 on the season. UTPB started 1-8 and is looking to win back-to-back games for the first time this season. UTPB is hitting .250 as a team and averages 2.95 runs per game. Junior outfielder Irene Valdez has a team-high .354 average and junior infielder JJ Von Oesen has slugged a team-leading five home runs and 15 RBIs. The Falcons' pitching staff comes in with a 7.65 ERA with opponents hitting .356 against them.
The SeriesTarleton State and UTPB have met seven times since 2010 and the TexAnns have won all seven games in the series. TSU and UTPB met twice last season – both games being played in Odessa – with the TexAnns outscoring the Falcons 12-1 in the two wins. This will be UTPB's second-ever trip to Tarleton State, the last coming in 2013.
Welcome HomeThe TexAnns return home after sweeping a doubleheader against Texas A&M International in Laredo on March 11. Both wins for Tarleton State came in extra innings: 4-1 in 9 innings in game one and 3-2 in 10 innings in game two. The TexAnns improved to 3-2 in extra-inning games this season.
Offensive MachineMelody Mayse, Tarleton's all-time leader in triples, is tops in three-baggers in the Lone Star Conference with five on the season. Mayse is also third in the LSC in stolen bases (13), fifth in runs scored (21) and sixth in hits (27).
Next Up for Tarleton StateThe TexAnns will continue Lone Star Conference play when they host Midwestern State for a four-game series with a doubleheader starting Friday, March 20 at 5 p.m. The teams will play another doubleheader on Saturday, March 21 beginning at 1 p.m. Both teams will be playing for their first wins in conference play (TSU 0-2, MSU 0-4).
