WICHITA FALLS – Tarleton Volleyball ran its win streak to five games with a 3-0 sweep on the road against Midwestern State.
The TexAnns (14-2, 7-1) are tied with Angelo State for first place in the Lone Star Conference standings, as they improved to 4-0 on the road.
Tarleton landed 41 kills in the match at a .269 hitting percentage and was led by
Hailey Roberts' match-best 12 kills. Midwestern State committed 19 errors and managed only a .105 percentage. Roberts now has 1,541 career kills and needs five kills to break Desiree Reed's all-time kills record.
In the opening set, Tarleton had to come from behind early with an 8-6 deficit, but the TexAnns responded with a 4-0 run on a pair of kills from
Autumn Taylor to grab a 10-8 lead. The TexAnns never trailed again in the set after Roberts and Taylor provided kills on six of the final seven points to give Tarleton a 25-20 win.
After the teams split the first 16 points of the second set, Tarleton took an 11-8 lead on three straight errors by Midwestern State and kept the momentum on its side the rest of the set. Kills by
Chandler Gow and Taylor padded the TexAnn lead to 15-11. Midwestern State kept Tarleton on its toes as the Mustangs got to within 19-17, but
Hannah McManus delivered a kill that started a 3-0 run and a 22-17 advantage. Roberts fired in a service ace for the final point of the set and another 25-20 win.
Looking to close out the match in three sets, Tarleton saved its best for last by jumping out to an 11-5 lead and getting contributions on kills from five different players in the process:
Rebecca Dauenhauer, Gow, Taylor, McManus and Roberts. Leading 14-10, Tarleton went on another run to separate itself from Midwestern State, this time a 5-0 stretch that was led by Roberts and Dauenhauer, who each had kills and a block during the run. The TexAnns closed out the set and the match on a 6-0 run to win 25-14 and give them nine sweeps on the season, including five in conference play.
In addition to Roberts' 12 kills, Taylor had 11 kills of her own on 19 swings for a .526 hitting percentage and only one error. Roberts also added 10 digs for her 13
th double-double of the season. Gow provided seven kills, her most in conference play this season.
Jordyn Keamo gave the TexAnns a game-high 35 assists, the 15
th straight game the junior has topped the 30-assist mark. Defensively,
Adrianna Knutson had a game-best 12 digs and Michael Rodriguez added a double-digit dig effort with 11.
Elizabeth Muliaga had three blocks to lead the TexAnns at the net.
Tarleton will travel to Dallas to take on Dallas Baptist in a nonconference match on Monday, Oct. 10 at 6 p.m.
