SAN ANGELO – Tarleton Volleyball was defeated in the Lone Star Conference championship by Angelo State, 3-0 (20-25, 17-25, 20-25).
Tarleton (26-6) came into the LSC tournament ranked No. 3 in the South Central regional poll. The loss snaps a season-high eight-game winning streak. The top eight teams in the regional rankings from the Lone Star, Rocky Mountain and Heartland conferences advance to the NCAA postseason. The NCAA selection show will take place Monday, Nov. 21 at 6:30 p.m. on NCAA.com. Tarleton has made the NCAA tournament the last two seasons.
The TexAnns, who were the No. 2 seed in the tournament, hit .189 in the match and had 18 errors while Angelo State, the No. 1 seed, hit .422 with only two errors.
Tarleton led 8-3 in the opening set with kills from
Hailey Roberts,
Autumn Taylor and
Elizabeth Muliaga. Angelo State rallied to take a 12-11 lead and maintained the advantage the rest of the way for a 25-20 win in the first set.
The TexAnns got off to another fast start in the second set, this time jumping out to a 5-1 lead and got kills from
Hannah McManus,
Alexis Applewhite, Taylor and Keamo. Tarleton maintained its lead at 16-12 before Angelo State scored the next nine points to take a 21-16 advantage en route to a 25-17 win.
Trailing 14-11 in the third set, Tarleton went on a 4-1 run on kills from Roberts and McManus to tie the score at 15. Angelo State closed the match out on a 10-5 run to claim its second straight LSC tournament championship.
Jordyn Keamo,
Autumn Taylor and
Adrianna Knutson were named to the LSC all-tournament team. Keamo recorded 29 assists, six digs, four kills and two aces. Taylor had 13 kills and hit .375 with only one error. Knutson had a team-high 17 digs and an ace.
Hailey Roberts led the TexAnns with 15 kills to go with 10 digs for the double-double.
