THE GAMES
No. 10 Tarleton will head to Canyon this weekend for five games at the Buffalo Sports Park on the campus of West Texas A&M, beginning Friday at 11:30 a.m. against Metro State.
Â
THE OPPONENTS
Tarleton will open the tournament against four schools from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference – Metro State, Chadron State, Colorado State-Pueblo, and Adams State – before finishing the tournament with a Valentine's Day rematch against Lubbock Christian. Tarleton is a combined 9-7 against its five opponents this weekend, including a 7-2 mark against Chadron State, Colorado State-Pueblo, and Adams State.
Â
LAST TIME OUT
Tarleton is coming off a 4-1 tournament trip to San Antonio last weekend, in which they earned victories over East Central, St. Edward's, Lubbock Christian, and No. 12 St. Mary's. Three members of the TexAnns –
Savannah Stech,
Haley Freyman, and
Melody Mayse – were each named to the all-tournament team.
Â
RBI MACHINES
Seniors
Katelyn Conlee and
Melody Mayse have made a career of driving in runs for Tarleton and are quickly approaching 100 career RBIs. Conlee enters this weekend's tournament with 88 while Mayse is at 84. Tarleton has only had five players in its 21-year history record over 100 RBIs in a career and have never had multiple players with over 100 on the same team.
Â
REIGNING LSC PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Haley Freyman pitched in six of Tarleton's first seven games and has five wins on her record. She currently leads the LSC with 23 strikeouts. Freyman has pitched against all three teams who finished last season with over 30 wins – East Central, Lubbock Christian, and No. 12 St. Mary's – and boasts an ERA of 0.00 in 17.2 innings of work with a record of 3-0, 11 strikeouts, and a .164 opponent batting average against those teams. Freyman currently leads the Lone Star Conference with 23 strikeouts, including nine looking, and five wins. With an ERA of 0.41 in 34.0 innings of work this season, Freyman's ERA is the best in the league among pitchers who threw more than 15.0 innings last week. It's the first career LSC weekly award for Freyman.
Â
STEALING HER WAY TO THE TOP
Melody Mayse, who already owns the all-time Tarleton triples record, is quickly on her way to etching her name atop another all-time statistical category. The senior from Grandview enters this weekend with 58 career steals, which puts her No. 3 all time. She is nine stolen bases away from passing Rebecca Wessels (66) for second place and 15 stolen bases from passing Amanda Smith (72) as the school's all-time steals leader.
Â
UP NEXT FOR TARLETON
Tarleton will return to San Antonio for the final pre-conference tournament of the year. Tarleton will face off with five teams in three days at the St. Mary's Rattler Invitational, beginning Friday against Oklahoma Christian at 2 p.m.
