No. 20 TexAnns fall in final day of series with No. 1 West Texas A&M

CANYON – Tarleton fell in both games of the series finale at Schaeffer Park Saturday afternoon to No. 1 West Texas A&M.

Game 1: No. 1 West Texas A&M 20, No. 20 Tarleton 2 (5)

A 10-run second inning proved too much to overcome as the TexAnns fell in five innings in the first game of Saturday's twin bill.

Tarleton got the scoring started with a run in the first inning on Savannah Stech's RBI single to plate Melody Mayse for a 1-0 Tarleton lead. Mayse led off the game with a walk and then stole second before moving to third on a wild pitch to set up the run.

Meanwhile, West Texas A&M scored in each inning (2, 10, 4, 4) before Tarleton added its last run of the game on an RBI single into right field from Rebeka Allen to score Stech.

Tarleton had six hits in the game, including two from Allen in a 2-for-3 afternoon. Mayse, Katelyn Conlee, Nyka Wood, and Alyssa Ringhausen had one hit each. Wood's single in the third inning extended her hitting streak to 13 games.

Game 2: No. 1 West Texas A&M 8, No. 20 Tarleton 0 (5)

In the series finale, Tarleton suffered a four-hit shutout at the hands of the Lady Buffs.

The TexAnns got one hit each from Mayse, Conlee, Ringhausen, and Allen. Mayse's hit extended her active hitting streak to nine straight, which is the longest on the team.

Tarleton, which now has an overall record of 12-9, will look to turn things back around next weekend when they return home for the first time in over a month for a four-game Lone Star Conference series against Texas Woman's, beginning Friday at 5 p.m.
