Box ScoreSTEPHENVILLE – Tarleton opened the 2016 spring tennis schedule with a 9-0 sweep of NAIA Texas Wesleyan Saturday afternoon at the Potishman-Lard Tennis Complex.

"I was really pleased with our movement and our energy, especially in doubles," said head coach
Lance Drake. "We did a good job of executing our strategie. The No. 1 doubles match was a good one, because they had a good team over there. It was a good win for Erika (Richarme) and Ashleigh (Elward)."

Richarme and Elward handled the toughest doubles match of the afternoon with an 8-5 win in the No. 1 spot while the duos of
Elena Preadca/
Luiza Ferraro-Adas and
Ellie Stevens/
Shelby Fillingame each handled the No. 2 and 3 matches 8-1, respectively, to give Tarleton a 3-0 lead over the visiting Lady Rams, who were playing in their debut match as a program.

In singles action, Preadca managed a clean sweep in the No. 6 battle while
Ellie Stevens (6-1, 6-2) and
Shelby Fillingame (6-1, 6-0) took care of business in the No. 5 and 4 matches, respectively, to round out the bottom of the TexAnn lineup.

Meanwhile, in the top half of the Tarleton order, Ferraro-Adas handled the No. 3 match 6-1, 6-1 while Richarme won the No. 2 match 6-0, 6-4.
Ashleigh Elward withstood a battle from the Lady Rams' top-seed player and claimed a 6-3, 6-2 win in her season debut.

The TexAnns will head to Arkadelphia, Arkansas next week for three games at the Ouachita Baptist Quad, beginning Feb. 11 against the host Tigers at 6 p.m.
