THE GAMES
After weather has kept Tarleton from playing any games since March 8, the TexAnns will look to take the field in Lone Star Conference action against Midwestern State at Mustangs Park in Wichita Falls. Friday first pitch is set for 5 p.m. with Saturday's game on tap for a 2 p.m. start time.
Â
THE OPPONENT
Midwestern State is 18-16 this season, including 4-8 in three Lone Star Conference series. The Mustangs opened LSC action by taking three of four from Eastern New Mexico in Portales but have since dropped seven of their last eight league games to No. 1 West Texas A&M and Texas Woman's. The Mustangs are led by three players hitting over .400 this season, including Katelyn Vinson who is leading the way with a .467 batting average and nine home runs.
Â
THE SERIES
Tarleton and Midwestern State have met 30 times since the Mustangs added softball for the 2004 season. The TexAnns are 9-21 all-time against the Mustangs, including a 2-9 mark in Wichita Falls, but won three out of four games in the series last season.
Â
LAST TIME OUT
Tarleton was supposed to play a doubleheader in Stephenville last Saturday before rain caused it to postpone to a later date, which will be announced in the coming days. In Tarleton's last outing at Texas A&M International on March 8, a leadoff home run fromÂ
Nyka Wood in the bottom of the seventh inning of game two sparked a comeback win for then-No. 25 Tarleton in a doubleheader split with Texas A&M International.
Â
UP NEXT FOR TARLETON
The TexAnns will head to Odessa on Tuesday afternoon for a doubleheader with Texas-Permian Basin in a preview of a Lone Star Conference showdown next season. The Falcons will be joining the LSC in the fall. Tuesday's first pitch is set for 2 p.m.
