THE GAMES
Tarleton will play its first road series in school history against the Lions in Commerce this weekend when the TexAnns square off for a four-game series beginning Friday at 5 p.m. The series will wrap up with a 2 p.m. twin bill on Saturday afternoon. This is Tarleton's second-ever trip to Commerce after visiting for a tournament last season, but the first time Tarleton will play a conference series against the host Lions.
Â
THE TEXANNS
Tarleton enters the series with an overall record of 21-18 and a 4-12 mark in Lone Star Conference play. Tarleton has played 14 true road games away from the friendly confines and
Alyssa Ringhausen is the team's leading road hitter at .462 in seven of those games.
Katelyn Conlee has played in all 14 true road games and is hitting .375 in those games while
Shelby Hedrick boasts the top ERA (4.08) of the TexAnn staff in true road games this season.
Â
THE OPPONENTS
In their second year of existence, Texas A&M-Commerce enters the series with an overall record of 26-12 and a Lone Star Conference record of 10-10, which has them in a fourth-place tie in the conference standings. Ciera Nunez leads the Lions offensively with a .394 batting average in 38 games while Brittany Woolridge leads from the circle with a 2.20 ERA in 22 appearances.
Â
THE SERIES
Tarleton and Texas A&M-Commerce met five times in the Lions' inaugural season last year and the TexAnns hold a 3-2 advantage in the series. The TexAnns and Lions split the first-ever series in Stephenville last year and then Tarleton put an end to Commerce's stay in the LSC Championship Tournament with a 2-1 walk-off win in the quarterfinal round.
Â
LAST TIME OUT
Led by two home runs and five RBIs fromÂ
Nyka Wood, Tarleton pounded out 17 runs on 22 hits in Tuesday's two-game sweep of St. Edward's at the Tarleton Softball Complex. Joining Wood among the offensive powers of the afternoon wasÂ
Shelby Hedrick, who hit .714 by going 5-for-7 with two runs and three doubles.Â
Katelyn Conlee also hit over .600 on the afternoon, going 4-for-6 with two runs scored and four RBIs.
Â
UP NEXT FOR TARLETON
The TexAnns will return home to host Cameron in a four-game series in Stephenville on April 8-9. After this weekend's tilt with Commerce, the TexAnns will have three LSC series remaining for the season – two of them coming at home against Cameron and Eastern New Mexico – before the LSC Championship Tournament begins on April 29. The top six teams in the LSC standings will qualify for the postseason conference tournament.
