KINGSVILLE – Tarleton split the Saturday doubleheader with Texas A&M-Kingsville to move to 26-25 overall and 9-19 in the Lone Star Conference.

The TexAnns went to extra innings for the second straight game, only this time Tarleton came out on top with three runs in the eighth inning for an 8-5 win.

Melody Mayse led off the game with a single and later scored on
Lauren Powers' groundout for the games first run. It was the start of a 4-for-4 afternoon for Mayse, who also had a walk to reach base all five times.

Tarleton scored a pair of runs in the second and fifth innings, but TAMUK countered to tie the game at 5 in the fifth.

Haley Freyman came on in relief for Tarleton and threw four scoreless innings allowing only two hits and struck out two to earn her 21
st win of the season, which is tied for fourth most in a single season.

After a scoreless sixth and seventh inning from both teams, Tarleton scored three runs in the eighth all with two outs. Mayse led off the inning with a walk and stole second, leading to the game-winning run on
Taylor Fitzgerald's single to center.
Nyka Wood added an RBI double and
Katelyn Conlee brought home another insurance run on a single to left center.

The Javelinas would score six unanswered runs with two in the first and four in the third to pull away from the TexAnns.

Nyka Wood and
Savannah Stech each went 2-for-3 in the game and
Katelyn Conlee,
Lauren Powers, and
Avery Mullendore each added a hit for Tarleton.

Haley Freyman came on in relief and for the second straight game, the sophomore tossed multiple scoreless frames. Freyman went three innings of four-hit ball and struck out one.
Shelby Hedrick (3-4) took the loss but struck out five in the outing.

Tarleton returns home for the final series of the regular season for four games with Eastern New Mexico starting Friday, April 22 at 5 p.m.
