ODESSA –
Abby Mackey enjoyed the best day of her Tarleton career as the senior from Tyler blasted 18 kills on a .652 hitting clip to lift the TexAnns to a sweep of UT Permian Basin Saturday afternoon.
Â
Mackey's performance goes down as the fifth-best single match performance in Tarleton history as the senior landed 18 kills on 23 attacks with just three errors. Only Rachel Wolf (.783), Saresa Butler (.700), Amanda Wallace (.667), and
Kenya Alexander (.667) have hit a higher percentage in a match with at least 15 attempts in school history.
Â
She checked in one kill behind
Hailey Roberts for the team lead in kills on the afternoon as Tarleton's two-time All-American had herself a day, as well. Roberts landed 19 kills on a .400 hitting percentage, which marks her second-highest percentage in a match this season.
Â
The Tarleton offense, which hit a season-high .337 as a team, was guided by a double-double performance from
Jordyn Keamo. The junior from Hawaii poured in 40 assists in three sets, including 14 each in the first and third sets, while digging 11 balls for her seventh double-double of the season. She was the only TexAnns with double-digit digs on the afternoon as
Adrianna Knutson finished behind her with nine.
Â
The opening match proved to be the tightest of the afternoon as the Falcons stayed close over the first 39 points, forcing Tarleton to take a timeout with a slim 20-19 lead. Out of the break, Mackey, Keamo, and Roberts landed back-to-back-to-back kill shots to push the lead to 23-19. Roberts put the game away with a set-winning kill shot at 25-21.
Â
The Falcons jumped out to a 16-14 lead in the second set before
Alissa Johnson and Roberts scored back-to-back points to tie the game. A Falcon error put Tarleton on top for good to force the home team into a timeout.
Â
Out of the break, Roberts and Mackey went back-to-back to extend the lead to 19-16. The teams traded points to 23-20 before Roberts and
Kiana Leveston landed kill shots to seal the deal 25-20 and put the TexAnns up 2-0 in the match.
Â
The third set saw Tarleton dominate out of the box.
Â
After Tarleton jumped out to a 13-5 lead and eventually extended it to 20-12,
Chandler Gow got the final Tarleton surge started with a kill shot off a pass from Keamo. Gow and Mackey alternated kills on four straight points to put Tarleton at match point, 24-12. After a Falcon kill, Gow ended the match with her fourth kill of the day.
Â
After playing three matches in five days, Tarleton (11-2, 4-1) will play just once next week when the TexAnns return home to host Texas A&M-Kingsville (11-3, 3-1) at 6 p.m. Friday night in Wisdom Gym.
