No. 11 Tarleton sweeps No. 21 Angelo State for 14th straight win

STEPHENVILLE – No. 11 Tarleton is in a league of its own after sweeping No. 21 Angelo State for its 14th straight win.

The TexAnns won the match 25-22, 25-14, 25-17 and improved to 21-4 on the season and holds a three-game lead atop the Lone Star Conference standings at 13-1. In addition to Tarleton's 14-match win streak, the TexAnns have also won 19 straight home games dating back to last season.

The TexAnns had 45 kills and posted a .287 hitting percentage while holding Angelo State to a .131 clip, over .100 points below their season average of .238. It's the first sweep of Angelo State since Oct. 3, 2014 in Wisdom Gym.

The opening set lived up to a matchup of two top-25 teams, featuring 12 ties and 13 lead changes. The two teams split the first 18 points to open the match when Tarleton delivered with three straight points on kills from Hailey Roberts to build an 11-9 lead. Leading 13-11, Roberts and Amber Strange landed kills for the biggest lead of the set at 15-11. However, Angelo State responded with a 4-0 run of its own to once again tie the set. Tied at 20-20, a Rambelle attack error and Jordyn Keamo's service ace padded the lead to 22-20, with the TexAnns following with three of the next five points to take the set.

The second set was all Tarleton as the TexAnns built an early 5-2 advantage on kills from Roberts, Keamo and Chandler Gow. The TexAnns continued with a pair of 3-0 runs for a 12-6 lead midway through the set. After four straight points from Angelo State that forced a Tarleton timeout, the TexAnns caught fire by scoring six of the next seven points, including two straight aces from Kemao, for a commanding 21-12 run. Tarleton closed out the set with another 3-0 run on kills from Strange and Keamo for a 2-0 match lead.

Looking to close the match out in three, the TexAnns and Rambelles were tied at 3-3 before Robets powered down a kill for a 4-3 advantage and the TexAnns never trailed again. The TexAnns maintained a three-point lead at 17-14 before four straight points pushed the lead to 21-14. Roberts had the final two kills of the game to close out the sweep.
