THE GAMES
Tarleton Softball will return to league play this weekend when the TexAnns play host to Texas A&M-Kingsville for a three-game series on Friday and Saturday. The series will get under way with a 6 p.m. game Friday night before wrapping up with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday afternoon.
 
ABOUT THE TEXANNS
In comparison to his two predecessors, Mark Cumpian has already secured the best record by a first-year head coach in Tarleton Softball's 22-year history with 19 wins. The TexAnns enter this weekend with a record of 19-12 and a 6-6 mark in Lone Star Conference action. The offense, which is led by a .432 average by Nyka Wood, is hitting .323 as a team this season while the pitching staff boasts a 2.42 team ERA, led by Haley Freyman with a 2.20 mark in 108 innings of work.
 
ABOUT THE JAVELINAS
Texas A&M-Kingsville comes to town struggling of late, having lost four straight and six of their last seven, but boast a 13-11 overall record and a 5-6 mark in Lone Star Conference action. Led by third-year head coach Betsy Dean, the Javelinas are hitting .287 as a team. Victoria Schoonard-Saborio leads the offense with a .408 batting average while four other Javelinas are above .300 for the season. The Kingsville pitching staff has a 3.47 team ERA.

As a team, the TexAnns rank among the top 50 in the nation in the following statistical categories:

INSIDE THE SERIES
Tarleton and Kingsville have squared off 77 times since the series began in 1997. The TexAnns hold the all-time lead in the series 44-33 and have not lost more than two consecutive games to the Javelinas at any point in the all-time series since 1998. Tarleton is 21-10 all-time against Kingsville in Stephenville.
 
UP NEXT FOR TARLETON
The TexAnns will take a week off before heading to Silver City, New Mexico for four games against the Mustangs next weekend. The first three games of the series will be Lone Star Conference games and then Tarleton will stick around for one final game at the end of the series to play one more contest, which will count as a regional game but not a conference game.
