THE GAMES
Tarleton will make its longest road trip of the regular season this weekend for four games, including a three-game Lone Star Conference series, against Western New Mexico in Silver City, NM. The TexAnns will play a doubleheader on Friday and Saturday with the first three games counting towards the league standings and the final game counting as a regional, non-conference contest.
 
ABOUT THE TEXANNS
Tarleton is coming off a series win in Stephenville against Texas A&M-Kingsville to push its overall record to 21-13 and 8-7 in Lone Star Conference play. The TexAnns come into the series hitting .327 as a team, led by .400 hitters Nyka Wood (.440) and Maddie Quintanar (.424). The pitching combination of Haley Freyman (2.33) and Jordan Withrow (2.66) have combined to throw 179 innings this year to lead the TexAnn pitching staff, which comes into the series with a 2.60 team ERA.
 
ABOUT THE MUSTANGS
Western New Mexico has had a rough go of its first season in the Lone Star Conference as the Mustangs enter the series with a record of 1-27, but recently found success with an 8-5 victory over Embry Riddle (AZ) last Saturday. The Mustangs are hitting .274 as a team, led by Lacy Granger with a .353 average and 19 RBI. WNMU's pitching staff boasts an 8.33 team ERA.

As a team, the TexAnns enter this weekend's series ranked among the national top 50 in the following statistical categories:
 
No. 21 in On Base Percentage (.407)
No. 28 in Batting Average (.327)
 
The TexAnns also ranked in the national top 50 in the following individual statistical categories:
 
Haley Freyman – No. 2 in Saves (4); No. 15 in Shutouts (4)
Nyka Wood – No. 4 in Doubles (14); No. 4 in RBI (41); No. 20 in Hits (50); No. 34 in Total Bases (67); No. 42 in On Base Percentage (.543)
Maddie Quintanar – No. 5 in Hits (50); No. 44 in Stolen Bases (.62/game)
Savannah Stech – No. 32 in Hits (41)
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
Tarleton and Western New Mexico have met four times since the series began in 1999, all on neutral sites. This is WNMU's first year in the Lone Star Conference. Tarleton owns a 3-1 lead in the series, including an 8-0 win in the last meeting in Feb. 17, 2007.
 
UP NEXT FOR TARLETON
Tarleton will head to Austin on Tuesday for a two-game hiatus from Lone Star Conference play to take on St. Edward's in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
