THE GAMES
Tarleton will continue its run of competition against nationally ranked opponents as the TexAnns welcome No. 22 Lubbock Christian to town Tuesday afternoon for a 3 p.m. doubleheader in Stephenville.
ABOUT THE TEAMS
Tarleton is riding a wave of momentum after taking the series last weekend against No. 6 West Texas A&M with a 1-0 walk-off win Friday and a 7-3 victory Saturday afternoon. The TexAnns have won three of their last five – all against national top 10 opponents – and come into the games with a record of 14-10.
Nyka Wood leads the TexAnns with a .432 batting average while
Maddie Quintanar (.429) and
Meghann Wrinkle (.400) are also over the .400 mark with at least 30 at bats this season. Meanwhile, Lubbock Christian comes into the games ranked No. 22 in the nation by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association with an overall record of 16-4. Sydney Beuthien leads the offense with a .483 hitting clip and six home runs.
MILESTONE WATCH: NYKA WOOD
Just 24 games into her junior season,
Nyka Wood is already enjoying one of the finest careers in the history of TexAnn Softball. Wood has moved into the No. 2 spot all-time in career RBIs with 131, including 30 already this season. She is 19 RBIs away from passing Arianna Rodriguez (149) for the all-time lead.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Tarleton and Lubbock Christian have met seven times in their history since the teams started playing in 2011. The TexAnns have won three straight against the Lady Chaps, including a 12-2 victory in Grand Prairie earlier this season. Tarleton holds a 4-3 all-time in the series.
UP NEXT FOR TARLETON
The TexAnns will hit the road this weekend for a three-game series against Lone Star Conference rival Cameron in Lawton, Oklahoma. The TexAnns will play one game Friday at 2 p.m. and a doubleheader Saturday at 12 p.m.
