THE GAME
After dropping a 7-6 heartbreaker to West Texas A&M in the regional opener last night, the TexAnns will look to keep their season alive in an elimination affair against Texas Woman's Friday at 4 p.m.
THE TOURNAMENT FIELD
The top eight seeds of the South Central region split between two locations and Tarleton's No. 7-seed sent the TexAnns to Canyon. Tarleton squares off against No. 2-seed West Texas A&M while Texas Woman's (6) plays St. Mary's (3) earlier Thursday. Meanwhile, the remaining four seeds in the region will play their tournament in San Angelo, where Angelo State plays host as the region's top seed.

HISTORIC SEASON FOR CUMPIAN
Tarleton's
Mark Cumpian made quite the splash in his rookie season as head coach. In addition to delivering Tarleton's ninth 30-win season, he made school history by becoming the first head coach in any sport to qualify for an NCAA regional tournament in his first year.
TARLETON'S POSTSEASON HISTORY
The TexAnns first qualified for the national playoffs in 2003 under head coach Julie Mata and Tarleton proceeded to make three more trips over her tenure. Tarleton went 6-6 in the first three regionals before making a run to the school's first-ever NCAA Super Regional Series in 2015. Tarleton defeated West Texas A&M and Cameron twice as the No. 8 seed in 2015 to earn their first regional championship. Tarleton is 9-8 all-time in NCAA playoff games, including 1-0 against West Texas A&M.
UP NEXT FOR TARLETON
With a win, Tarleton will advance to its second straight elimination game against the loser of West Texas A&M and St. Mary's at 6:30 p.m. Friday. With a loss, the season ends.
