No. 14 TexAnns fall in five at Texas A&M-Commerce

COMMERCE – Despite a near triple-double performance by Jordyn Keamo, No. 14 Tarleton dropped its first Lone Star Conference match of the season Saturday afternoon with a five-set loss at Texas A&M-Commerce.

Jordyn Keamo was two digs away from becoming the first TexAnn in Tarleton history to record a triple-double in a single match as the All-America setter dished out 37 assists, landed 16 kills, and had eight digs for Tarleton. She also had a service ace and three blocks.

In a match that was tight all the way through, Tarleton suffered a first-set setback before back-to-back kills from Adriana Darthuy turned the tide of the second set to Tarleton's favor. Darthuy landed the kills to turn an 8-9 deficit into a 10-9 lead and the TexAnns never looked back as a Hailey Roberts kill closed out a 15-12 run over the rest of the game to deliver a 25-21 win and even the match at 1-1.

Commerce took the third set 25-18 and were in position to end things in four by jumping out to a 20-16 lead in the fourth set. A Hannah McManus kill sparked Tarleton and started an 8-4 TexAnn surge to even the match at 24-24. Tarleton had the advantage in extra points three times and finally capped off a win with back-to-back kills from McManus for the 29-27 win to force a fifth set.

Tarleton opened the fifth set with six of the first nine points to take a 6-3 lead and led through a 12-12 tie. The match would hinge on a back-and-forth battle into extra points as Tarleton held the advantage four times before three straight points by the Lions sealed the match.

Hailey Roberts led the TexAnns with 23 kills and 19 digs for her eighth double-double of the season while McManus joined Keamo and Roberts with double-figure kills (13). Adrianna Knutson had a season-high 29 digs while Blanca Izquierdo added 20 assists.

Tarleton will head to No. 5 Angelo State Wednesday night for a 7 p.m. showdown at the Junell Center.
