STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton took advantage of its opportunities with runners on base as the No. 18 TexAnns defeated Texas Woman's 7-1 in the opening game of this weekend's Lone Star Conference series in Stephenville.
After a scoreless first, Tarleton got on the board with a sacrifice fly from
Elizabeth Svienty in the second before extending the lead out to 3-0 in the third on an RBI single from
Megan Durante and an RBI double from
Tanna Huie.
The TexAnns continued to tack on runs with one more in the fourth on an RBI single into left center from
Meghann Wrinkle to push the lead out to 4-0.
Texas Woman's broke through on the run column with one in the top of the sixth, but Tarleton answered right back with a three spot in their half of the inning to put the game away. The TexAnns got on an RBI single into right from
Nyka Wood before a throwing error at the plate allowed two more Tarleton runs to come across and push the lead out to 7-1.
Jordan Withrow worked around a one-out single in the seventh to lock down her 19
th complete game of the season and 20
th pitching win. The sophomore right-hander allowed one run on eight hits and two walks while striking out three in the win.
Wrinkle led the way offensively with a 2-3 day at plate with an RBI and a run scored while
Georgia Capell, Wood, Durante, Huie, and
Marisa Flores accounted for one hit each in Tarleton's seven-hit performance.
