Doubles sweep leads to TexAnn win at UT Permian Basin

MIDLAND – Tarleton swept all three doubles matches and carried the momentum into singles to knock off UT Permian Basin 6-3 at the Bush Tennis Center in Midland Friday afternoon.

"Today was a good team effort," said head coach Lance Drake. "We played ok and were able to get the sweep, but we need to cut down on the unforced errors. We did what we needed to start 3-0. Erika (Johnston) played really well today and Neetika (Sud) cruised in the first and battled in the second to clinch the match for us."

Tarleton got things started with the No. 1 doubles pairing of Alicia Barbaroux and Sherine Salem earning an 8-5 win while the other tandems swapped partners and found victories in their first matches together – Sud and Johnston (8-6) and Shelby Fillingame and Chrystalynn Shirley (9-7).

In singles, Johnston cruised in the No. 4 match to a 6-0, 6-1 win while Sud handled a 6-0, 6-4 victory in the No. 2 spot to secure the win. Alicia Barbaroux also capped off a singles win with a 6-1, 6-3 victory in the top-seeded match.
