ODESSA – Tarleton's Halloween-night offensive attack will haunt UT Permian Basin after the Texans landed kills at a rate of .364 in a sweep of the Falcons in Odessa Thursday night.
Carmen Kinsey used all the tricks in her arsenal to treat herself to a team-high 12 kills on the evening while
Sofia Tonga and
Amber Strange collected double digit kills with 11 each. Tonga led the team with a .714 hit percentage while Kinsey (.500) and Strange (.320) topped a .300 hitting percentage on the night.
Kayla Brannon was passing out points like it was the best candy in the neighborhood as the sophomore setter led the team with 43 assists.
Adriana Darthuy (21) and
Tatyana Tuialii-Umi (15) led the team with 36 total digs.
The opening set saw the teams locked in a tight battle with Tarleton clinging to a slim 15-14 over the first 29 points but
Lauren Kersey pounded home a kill shot on the 30
th point of the set to start a 10-5 Tarleton run over the rest of the set to clinch a 25-19 win in the set.
UT Permian Basin spooked the Texans with a 19-15 lead but Tarleton answered right back with a 10-4 run down the stretch to silence the home crowd with a 25-23 lead in the set and a 2-0 lead in the match.
The final set mimicked the first over the first 29 points as the Texans held a slim 15-14 lead, but a service error from the Falcons opened the flood gates. The error was the beginning of a 10-4 Texan run to win the final set 25-18 and the match in a sweep.
Tarleton will continue heading westward for a 2 p.m. match Saturday in Silver City against Western New Mexico.
