DENTON – Tarleton freshman
Tristan Bridges was a weak, fifth-inning single and a first-inning walk away from perfection in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader as she led the TexAnns to a doubleheader split Saturday afternoon.
Game 1: Tarleton 6, Texas Woman's 0
In her first college game back in her home town,
Tristan Bridges was phenomenal as the freshman left-hander flirted with a no-hitter and twirled a complete-game shutout of the Pioneers to even the series at one game apiece.
Bridges allowed only a first-inning walk and a weak fifth-inning single to center field but was otherwise flawless in the first game at Pioneer Field Saturday afternoon. She sat down the side in order in all five of the other innings en route to her first career shutout.
She struck out four in the game.
Meanwhile,
Elizabeth Svienty got the offense rolling in the third by beating out a two-out infield single to extend the inning for
Georgia Capell, who took full advantage and teed off the deep left field for a two-run home run and a 2-0 Tarleton lead.
Even though Bridges didn't need it, the offense provided plenty of insurance runs with a four-run seventh inning on two-out, two-run doubles from Capell and
Amanda Conner to push the Tarleton lead out to 6-0 before Bridges sat the Pioneers down in order in the seventh.
Capell paced the offense with two hits and four RBI while Conner also enjoyed a two-hit day and two RBI. Svienty,
Tanna Huie,
Kadyn Kirkpatrick, and
Lexi Grimaldo had one hit each to round out the offense.
Game 2: Texas Woman's 2, Tarleton 0
Tarleton's offense struggled in the series finale and the TexAnns dropped their second league series of the season in a 2-0 loss to the Pioneers.
Tarleton had two runners on in the first, sixth and seventh inning but were unable to push any runs across. Tarleton managed only four hits in the game – one each from
Tanna Huie,
Amanda Conner,
Karli Herron, and
Lexi Grimaldo.
Tristan Bridges took the tough-luck loss in 4.1 innings of work, allowing two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out two.
Jordan Withrow threw the final 1.2 innings of one-hit relief.
Tarleton will take a break from league play next week but will host NAIA McPherson on Monday in Stephenville and travel to Weatherford, Oklahoma on Wednesday.
