ODESSA – For the third straight season under head coach
Mark Cumpian, Tarleton has reached the 30-win plateau for the season.
Tarleton reached that milestone for the 11
th time in program history Saturday afternoon, by not only sweeping UT Permian Basin, but keeping the Falcons completely off the board in back-to-back shutout wins to follow up
Jordan Withrow's 17-hour delayed no-hitter in game one last night.
Game 1: Tarleton 6, UT Permian Basin 0
After Withrow got three outs over four batters to polish off a no-hitter from the night before, she continued her dominance in game two of the series by shutting out the Falcons once again in a 6-0 victory for the TexAnns.
The teams battled through a scoreless tie over the first two innings before
Georgia Capell drove in
Lexi Grimaldo with a sacrifice fly to put Tarleton on top.
Tanna Huie followed up with a two-run single to extend the lead out to three.
Tarleton added one more in the fifth on a UTPB error and finished their scoring in the seventh on RBI doubles from Capell and
Destiny Crumpley.
Elizabeth Svienty was the catalyst for the offense once again as she went 2-2 with two runs scored, a double and a triple in the leadoff spot.
Kadyn Kirkpatrick and Grimaldo also boasted a two-hit performance while Capell, Huie and Crumpley had one hit each.
Meanwhile, Withrow improved to 14-3 in the circle with her seven-inning, three-hit shutout with one walk and five strikeouts.
Game 2: Tarleton 7, UT Permian Basin 0
Tristan Bridges polished off the flawless weekend with a two-hit, complete-game shutout of her own while a grand slam from
Amanda Conner boosted the offense to a 7-0 win in the series finale.
Bridges was given plenty of run support very quickly as
Tanna Huie got Tarleton on the board with a RBI single and
Karli Herron coaxed a bases-loaded walk to make it 2-0. Then Conner followed up with the big blast of the game as the senior teed off to left for a grand slam and a 6-0 Tarleton lead in the top of the first.
Huie would tack on a solo home run of her own in the fourth, but it was more than Bridges needed as UT Permian Basin could muster only a second-inning single and a third-inning double. Bridges struck out five and did not issue a walk in her seven innings of shutout softball.
Huie led the team with two hits while Svienty, Crumpley, Herron, Conner, and Grimaldo had one hit each.
Tarleton will return home next weekend for a pivotal Lone Star Conference series against Texas A&M-Commerce, beginning Friday at 6 p.m.
