WACO – After a magical run through the Lone Star Conference Tournament, the Cinderella-story No. 5-seeded Tarleton TexAnns came up just short in the league's tournament championship match to MSU Texas Saturday.
With the loss, Tarleton's regional tournament fate appears upended. The TexAnns entered the tournament as the No. 6 seed in the South Central region, but top-seeded Angelo State maintains a healthy lead in the standings while St. Edward's (2) and MSU Texas (3) remain firm. MSU Texas secured the automatic qualifier from the Lone Star Conference.
Texas A&M-Kingsville, who was No. 4 in the rankings, will be knocked out as St. Mary's won the Heartland Conference Tournament championship to lock in an automatic berth of their own and complete the four-team regional. The official announcement will be made Tuesday, May 7 at 7:30 p.m. CT on NCAA.com.
Tarleton's loss in the LSC Tournament Championship wasn't without superb effort, according the interim head coach
Elianne Douglas-Miron.
"I'm very proud of the way the girls fought all weekend," said Douglas-Miron. "Every match was a battle and the team competed with so much grit. We are leaving a better team and we are excited for the future."
Tarleton's lone point of the match came in the first singles match of the day when
Faustine Palatte earned her first LSC Tournament victory with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Juliette Mary.
