Elianne Douglas-Miron officially began her career at the helm of the program with a 6-1 win over Texas Wesleyan in Stephenville Friday afternoon.
"I'm very proud of how the team competed today," said Douglas-Miron. "We started off with some nerves in doubles but quickly bounced back in singles. It was really great to see the newcomers in action. I'm very impressed with their level and I'm excited to see them out again tomorrow."
Tarleton opened up the afternoon by taking the doubles point with wins in the No. 2 and 3 matches, respectively. The pairing of
Nathalie Ulander and
Celia Vaudiau handled the No. 2 match with a 6-4 win while
Alicia Barbaroux and
Delfina Rodriguez won the No. 3 match 6-3 to secure the point.
Vaudiau, the freshman from France, was the first Texan to complete her singles win with a 6-0, 6-0 victory in the No. 4 position. She was followed in order by Barbaroux (6-2, 6-1) in the No. 1 spot and
Faustine Palatte (6-2, 6-0) in the No. 3 spot to go ahead and clinch the victory for Tarleton.
Gaayatri Shankar claimed her first win of the season in the No. 5 spot with a 6-0, 6-2 victory and
Nathalie Ulander battled back from a 3-6 loss in the opening set to win the No. 2 battle 3-6, 6-3, 10-8.
Delfina Rodriguez suffered a setback in the No. 6 spot 6-7, 4-6 in her collegiate debut.
Tarleton will get back to action against Tyler Junior College tomorrow at 1 p.m. in Stephenville.
