RUSTON, La. – Tarleton couldn't overcome a four-run first inning and the Texans suffered a loss Friday night against Louisiana Tech 6-3 at Lady Techster Field.
The Texans jumped out to a quick lead as
Georgia Capell led things off with a double and eventually came around to score on an RBI single through the left side from
Katy Schaefer. Tarleton loaded in the bases with one out when the rain forced a brief delay.
Out of the break, Tarleton tacked on one more run from an RBI groundout by
Destiny Crumpley but could push no more across. The Texans led 2-0 after the top of the first.
A couple of RBI hits and defensive miscues allowed the Lady Techsters to respond with a four-spot in the first. That 4-2 lead carried into the fifth when La Tech tacked on one more run in each of the next two innings. Tarleton scored the final run of the night on an RBI single from
Hallie Saintignan, who was playing her first game back in her home state of Louisiana.
Saintignan and Schaefer led the team with two hits each while Capell and
Morgan Medford accounted for one hit each to round out the offense.
Julia Wernet took the loss in the circle despite tossing all six innings.
The Texans will play two games tomorrow at 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. – one against Baylor and the nightcap against La Tech in a rematch. Only the La Tech game will be live streamed. Links to live stats can be found on the TarletonSports.com Softball Schedule page.
