BEAUMONT, Texas – The Tarleton bats went silent and defensive miscues allowed Lamar to take control in a 5-3 Texan loss in the series finale.
After Lamar struck first with a solo run in the opening inning, Tarleton answered back with a leadoff triple from
Austin Germain and an RBI groundout from Amanda DeSario to tie the game. The 1-1 tie carried through three innings.
Lamar scored two in the fourth and two in the fifth to lead 5-1. Tarleton scored two in the seventh with a
Tristyn Trull triple but back-to-back strikeouts ended the Texan rally.
Germain led the team with two hits while
Georgia Capell, Trull and
Hallie Saintignan had one each.
Tristan Bridges and
Julia Wernet combined to go the distance and allowed three total earned runs. The Tarleton defense committed three errors, which accounted for two unearned runs.
Tarleton will return to action next weekend with a three-game road series at Sam Houston, beginning with a 4 p.m. doubleheader Friday.
