STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton could not outlast Cal Poly at the Bank of Colorado Arena on Saturday afternoon to close out the Northern Colorado Classic.
Cal Poly (3-7) took the Texans (8-6) down 25-18, 27-25, 25-15. Tarleton managed to push the Mustangs to extras in set two but ultimately could not close the set out to tie the match at one.
The Texans got 11 kills from
Megan Haynes and nine from
Grayson Schirpik.
Melina Maldonado added 14 kills and
Ana Costas added 10 digs.
Cal Poly hit .340 to Tarleton's .092 on the match. They finished with 10 blocks to the Texans' four.
Tarleton looked to be within striking distance of tying the match at one when they took the 24-22 lead as Schirpik landed a kill off an assist from
Megan Hodges. Cal Poly went on to score five of the next six points to close the set out 27-25.
Tarleton will begin Western Athletic Conference play this coming week. They head to Nacogdoches for a tilt with Stephen F. Austin on Thursday. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m. CT and the match will be streamed on ESPN+.
