STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton got off to a hot start in front of 747 rowdy fans in all white at Wisdom Volleyball Gym on Thursday evening, but Stephen F. Austin was ultimately too much to handle as the Texans fell 3-1 (26-24, 16-25, 17-25, 15-25).
Tarleton (8-9, 0-3 WAC) looked to be down and out in set one, with SFA (14-2, 2-1 WAC) holding a late 23-17 lead. The Texans proceeded to go on a 9-1 run down the stretch to take the set 26-24 and send Wisdom Gym into a frenzy.
Joselyn Roberson spearheaded the run, landing three kills.
Jaylibeth Garcia-Rosa had two kills of her own as the Texans made their run.
Tarleton hit a team-high .209 in the first set while also besting SFA with 18 kills to the Ladyjacks 13.
The Texans did not have much success throughout the rest of the match. The Ladyjacks hit .231 and held the Texans to just .090 for the match as they took the next three sets consecutively.
Emma Burke led Tarleton with a career-high 11 kills, followed by McDonough with 10 and Roberson with nine. Garcia-Rosa added eight kills and four digs.
Megan Hodges finished with 39 assists and eight digs.
Ana Costas led with 17 digs, followed up by
Emma Halcomb who had 11.
Kelsey Harrington finished with seven kills, seven blocks and four digs for the Ladyjacks. Ariana Pagan led with 10 kills.
The Texans will resume WAC play in Wisdom Gym on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT when UT Arlington comes to town.
