LUBBOCK, Texas – Tarleton track and field entered day two of the Texas Tech Open looking to build off the momentum they created on day one.
They did just that with strong performances throughout, including two school records being topped once again.
The first record to fall came courtesy of freshman Seriate, Italy, native
Gabriele Tosti. He jumped 15.48m in the indoor men's triple jump to surpass his previous school record jump of 14.84m that came in December at the Crimson and Gold Classic in Kansas. The jump of 15.48m earned him a fourth-place finish and is the only jump in the Texan record books that is over 15 meters.
The second record to come crashing down was a group effort. The men's 4x400m relay team consisting of freshman
Canyun Staton, graduate student
Brandon McKissick, graduate student
Alan Palmer and junior
Reid Vincent ran the relay in 3:12.27, earning first in their heat and fifth place overall at the meet as well as topping the school record book. McKissick, the Liberty Hill, Texas, native paced the relay team running his leg in 47.59 seconds.
"This weekend showed us who we are and what we need to continue to improve on in these coming weeks," said head coach
Clay Holland. "We had a few good performances that we were expecting and that made the weekend exciting."
Junior
Hanna Dudley clocked a time of 24.87 in the women's 200m dash, the 33rd best time out of 107 participants.
Graduate student
Gentrye Munden placed sixth in the women's high jump, jumping 1.70m (5'7).
For the men's 200m dash, Vincent finished the highest of all the Texan men to race, running it in 21.78 seconds, the 37th best time out of 101 participants.
Junior
Jaden Hall managed a jump of 14.35m in the men's triple jump which was good for an 11th place finish.
Freshman
Morgan Lamberson placed 13th in the women's mile, running it in 5:18.38. Sophomore
Kailey Sykora placed 21st in the women's 800m run, running It in 2:24.53 while junior
Kevin Calvani ran the men's 800m run in 1:58.24, placing 26th.
"The main message to the team is we need to continue to focus on improving each week," said Holland. "We had a much-improved meet compared to the last but that is a stepping stone to where we want to be at the end of February for the conference championships."
The Texans will return to action on Feb. 10-11 in Lubbock for the Jarvis Scott Open hosted by Texas Tech. It is the last indoor meet before the WAC Indoor Championships in Spokane, Wash. on Feb. 24-25.
