STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton came out with vengeance on their mind Saturday afternoon and evened their series with Houston on a 9-1, five inning victory, capped off by a walk-off two-run double from Morgan Medford.
Tristan Bridges set the tone early with a 1-2-3 top of the first inning and then the offense went to work.
The Texans loaded the bases on two walks and a Kelci Hill single before Katy Schaefer cashed in the first run of the game on an RBI single into left field. Tarleton would go on to plate three more in the inning on two passed balls and an RBI groundout by Tristyn Trull to give the Texans a 4-0 lead after the first.
After a scoreless second inning on both sides, Houston cracked the run column in the top of the third, but Jordan Dickerson had an answer in the bottom half. The Mt. Pleasant native turned on an inside pitch and deposited the pitch into the left-field parking lot for a 5-1 lead.
Two innings later, Tarleton put the game away.
With runners on second and third with two outs, Kaylin Ortner had a 2-2 count and coaxed a walk to load the bases. Austin Germain followed with an RBI free pass before Medford turned on a pitch and ripped a double into the right center gap to walk the Texans off winners 9-1.
Medford and Schaefer led the Texans with two hits each while Hill, Dickerson and Kayla Wallace had one hit each.
Meanwhile, Bridges was in cruise control in the circle. The senior southpaw earned her fourth win of the season with five innings of work. She allowed one run on three walks and four hits. She struck out one.
Tarleton and Lamar will play the rubber game of the series tomorrow at noon in Stephenville.
