Texans fall in final leg of 3-game road trip at Abilene Christian

ABILENE, Texas – The Texans lost a conference match and lost at Abilene Christian on April 1. Surprisingly, this is not an April Fool's Day joke.

Tarleton lost just their second conference match in two seasons, falling 5-2 at ACU at Eager Tennis Pavilion on Saturday. The Texans are now 11-6 overall and 3-2 in WAC matches, while the Wildcats improved to 8-11 overall, 2-3 in the WAC.

ACU got off to the hot start, winning the doubles point thanks to wins on Courts 1-2. Tarleton actually got on the board first in the doubles matches, as Emma Persson and Clara Sobius beat Andrea Guerrero and Eva Arranz 6-2. But ACU responded with two close wins, first a win on Court 1 by Masha Vrsalovic and Olivia Sears 7-5 over Martha Makantasi and Elsa Boisson. Then Maria Cascos and Maryjoe Crisologo dealt the pair of Ximena Morales and Elif Albayrak their first loss of the season, 6-4, on Court 2.

Tarleton's two wins in singles came in the top flight and on Court 3. In the No. 1 position, Persson improved to 13-3 this year with her 3-6 6-3 6-2 victory over Vrsalovic. Boisson beat Sears 6-4 6-4 in the No. 3 position to improve to 11-4.

ACU's wins were; Crisologo over Makantasi on Court 2 6-2 4-6 6-4; Cascos over Albayrak on Court 4 6-4 6-4; Guerrero over Morales on Court 5 6-4 6-3; Arranz over Sobius on Court 6 3-6 7-6(2) 6-3.

Tarleton returns to Stephenville for their final two home matches of the year. They'll begin the set against Grand Canyon on Thursday at 1 p.m. CT.
